Looking back on 2013’s Fall anime

Looking back on 2013’s Fall anime

No Kyoukai no Kanata or even Naruto Shippuuden this week. It’s a damn shame but what can you do about it? I don’t work on Christmas so why should they? I’m just glad that we will be getting new anime soon.

I’d like to dedicate this post to the shows that I either underrated or simply didn’t write about. My mistakes this season were definitely Yuushibu and Freezing Vibration. Yuushibu was pretty amusing and funny at times, but it’s a lot of the same thing. Freezing Vibration was simply a big letdown that never stopped to disappoint. It didn’t do the manga justice.

Looking back I would’ve rather written about Non Non Biyori, which is also a lot of the same thing, only better, or Outbreak Company. I kind of enjoyed Gingitsune a lot, too. The thing with these shows is that you never really know what to expect. Is the director any good? Are the voice actors and actresses? It’s basically a crapshoot. Sometimes it turns out great and sometimes it just doesn’t.

I think this season’s underrated show must’ve been Gundam Build Fighters. I expected a lot less and have been enjoying every episode so far. Yes, it’s a little childish at times and it could definitely use a touch of adult romance, but it’s very enjoyable nonetheless. This season most overrated show, no matter how low it has been rated, is definitely Meganebu. That has been a headache since the beginning. I dropped it after the second episode. I just couldn’t take it anymore.

Anyway, this is basically what I wanted to share today. There’s not much else I can do now that certain episodes aren’t airing this week. I just hope the new season starts soon. I can’t wait to check out the new season, especially the new Gin no Saji season.

Freezing Vibration episode 12

This ending seems familiar. Oh, that’s right, it’s the same as the first season’s ending. It basically doesn’t end anything, does it? That just means that there’s probably going to be a third freezing season. I just hope it won’t be as mediocre as this one.

[Hiryuu] Freezing Vibration 12 [AT-X Hi10P 1280x720 H264] [15BC984D].mkv_snapshot_02.42_[2013.12.25_23.45.42]So Chiffon has been bumped from a supporting character to a main character during these past few episodes… Good for her! Was she one of the ‘good guys’ in the end? I’m not sure. The ending was really vague. All of a sudden she displayed abilities similar to the E-Pandoras, making me think that she, too, was a lab rat that those scientists experimented on. It would certainly explain why she would protect the facility and the researchers by fighting off her (former) friends. I can’t say anything with utmost certainty though, it was just too damn vague.

[Hiryuu] Freezing Vibration 12 [AT-X Hi10P 1280x720 H264] [15BC984D].mkv_snapshot_14.38_[2013.12.25_23.46.12]In the end Chiffon ended up sacrificing her life in order to fix the mistakes those scientists made before it destroyed the world as they knew it. What about that old dude? What about Maria? They showed us glimpses and nothing more. I dare say that this was a waste of time to watch and write about. Oh, and… Oh, to hell with it. I’m done reviewing Freezing Vibration.

It has been a very, very disappointing season. It just didn’t measure up from the very beginning. The finale was rushed, most of the important questions did not get answered, lots of depowered characters and the worst character on the show, Luis, was forgiven for his evil deeds like it never even happened. What a disappointing season… Please fire (and sue) the director!

Sugar Soldier anime green-lit

Sugar Soldier anime green-lit

The February issue of Shueisha’s Ribon magazine is announcing on Friday that Mayu Sakai’s Sugar Soldier manga is inspiring a television anime next month.

The romantic comedy centers around Makoto Kisaragi, a 15-year-old girl whose “special ability” is her persecution complex. She was raised well but in relative obscurity compared to her big sister, a famous model. Despite her negative personality, Makoto vowed to become popular when she entered high school, but things did not turn out quite so well for her. One day, she meets Iriya, Mr. Popular in their class, and they become friends.

The anime will run on January 14, 21, and 28 as segments within the children’s television program Oha-Suta (“Good Morning Star”) on TV Tokyo.

Sakai launched the manga in Ribon in 2011, and Shueisha will publish the sixth book volume in January.

Yowamushi Pedal episode 12

Merry Christmas everyone! It’s cold outside, the wind is blowing as though tomorrow will never come and I have a big mug of hot instant coco. Writing this post will be easy, especially since I was right about most things.

[HorribleSubs] Yowamushi Pedal - 12 [720p].mkv_snapshot_06.22_[2013.12.24_23.55.05]So everyone is off training. Nice. Everyone will have a huge schedule to keep in order to achieve the necessary miles. Fail to and you will be off the team. It’s no surprise that they would tamper with Sakamichi, Shunsuke and Shoukichi’s bicycles in order to push them to their limits and to perfect any flaws they might have. It’s a rough training camp that will drive them beyond their limits and I’m pretty sure we’ll get to see a lot of neat things. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Sakamichi comes out on top as the most promising member after all that’s happened until now.

[HorribleSubs] Yowamushi Pedal - 12 [720p].mkv_snapshot_19.47_[2013.12.24_23.55.54]But yeah, they are still playing favours. Sakamichi definitely seems to be the favourite. Is it because he’s honest and hardworking? Is it because he’s naturally talented after all the years of cycling? Or is it because they somewhat pity him because of his inexperience and his please-don’t-hurt-me-I’m-only-little personality?

I’m looking forward to the next episode. I imagine that this training camp of theirs is going to take up another episode or two. Maybe even three. But, and this is the most important part, it will lead to whomever is going to race with the seniors in the upcoming competition. There’s not enough place for all of them so only a few will be selected. (I’ll do my best to act surprised when Sakamichi gets selected.)

Rail Wars! anime green-lit

Rail Wars! anime green-lit

The January issue of Kogata Zenkoku Jikoku-Hyou, the standard reference for train schedules, announced on Friday that an anime adaptation of Takumi Toyoda’s Rail Wars! -Nihon Kokuyuu Tetsudou Kouantai- (Rail Wars! Japanese National Railways Security Force) light novel series has been green-lit.

The “dream railway paradise entertainment” story is set in a parallel world where Japan did not privatize its national railways. Naohito Takayama is an ordinary high school boy who dreams of a comfortable future working for the top-rated Japanese National Railways. He is assigned as a trainee in the Railways Security Force full of odd characters such as Sakurai, a troublemaker who hates men. On top of that, an extremist group called “RJ” plots to privatize the Japanese National Railways.

Toyoda launched the series with illustrations by Vania 600 last year, and the Sohgeisha Clear Bunko imprint published the seventh volume on September 19. Here is the promotional video for the seventh volume:
