Ao Haru Ride episode 04

I am running out of time so I am keeping this one short. I would also like to point out that I’m already regretting writing about Ao Haru Ride. Zankyou no Terror would’ve been a much better choice. No chance of getting bored with that one.

[HorribleSubs] Ao Haru Ride - 04 [720p].mkv_snapshot_01.17_[2014.07.31_23.27.08]Kou really made a mistake this week by relying on Futaba. The girl has the attention span of a hummingbird, what’d you expect? She barely made it in time for their school trip. You’d think something would happen on a school trip, right? Far away from home, teachers doing their best to look after all the children but fail miserably… Perfect opportunities are everywhere.

What happened? Absolutely nothing. It was the same damn thing. Both of them can’t keep their eyes off of one another, yet both refuse to admit that they like each other out of pure stubbornness. I really think it’s time that those two grow up a bit and just get it over with. For god’s sake, Kou keeps appearing every single time she needs him. Coincidence? No.

Ao Haru Ride episode 03

Quite a messy episode. I expected something a little bit different. I was already going for a hopeless pursuit where Futaba would try desperately to find traces of the boy she used to like. In a way I think she already is trying.

[HorribleSubs] Ao Haru Ride - 03 [720p].mkv_snapshot_03.37_[2014.07.24_22.58.54]I didn’t expect that the show would take such a strange turn where Kou, the no longer shy protagonist, would appear to be so sensitive. I just thought it was because his old brother turned out to be one of their teachers, and this guy in so worried about his little brother after his father and mother broke up… Well… I thought that, but it simply took a different turn. I was actually more surprised that Futaba basically told Kou that she used to like him back in the day and that she knew that he liked her, too. I thought that would mark the start of an interesting relationship, but no… Not yet.

[HorribleSubs] Ao Haru Ride - 03 [720p].mkv_snapshot_14.49_[2014.07.24_22.59.13]This episode was so strange that there’s very little that I want to say. I’m just worried that this whole show will turn into one of those group-romances, you know? They all get new friends instead of pretending to someone they’re not. They all fall in love with someone and soon you’ll have one love triangle after the other. I honestly don’t want this show to be one of those long, boring quests to see if true love will conquer all and such. I honestly am not interested in teenage love drama. It’s always so overreacted and corny and the problems always seem so insignificant (mainly because I look at it from an adult’s point of view).

Ao Haru Ride episode 02

Yeah, alright, why not. I wasn’t actually planning to write about Ao Haru Ride because romance anime tends to let me down a lot in the end. They always start things off so well and end it poorly. Most of the time nothing ever happens. We’ll see…

[HorribleSubs] Ao Haru Ride - 02 [720p].mkv_snapshot_05.44_[2014.07.16_22.31.55]So Futaba now leads a pointless life where she has to pretend to be someone she’s not in order to maintain friendships. At least, that’s what she thinks. That is just incredibly sad. I never pretended to be someone I’m not in order to make friends. Sure, I didn’t have many when I was growing up, but the ones I did have hung out with me because of me and not because of my acting skills. In fact, I really hate people that put a mask on and do and say anything in order to become friends. That’s the saddest kind of person you can be. You can only be truly happy if you can be yourself around others.

[HorribleSubs] Ao Haru Ride - 02 [720p].mkv_snapshot_15.35_[2014.07.16_22.32.10]Anyway, it’s only a matter of time before Futaba messed up. It happened during this episode and I’m pretty sure she’ll do it again. She may lose a couple of contacts whom she thought were her friends, but she will gain real friends in return. Isn’t it funny how insignificant a teenager’s problems seem? I honestly couldn’t sympathize.

My money is on Kou. He seems rather aggressive and doesn’t seem to shy away like Futaba usually does. I like that. He is himself, he doesn’t put on an act in front of others and he seems to speak his mind a lot. That guy will go far. It will probably be due to his personality that he and Futaba will start dating in the future. I honestly can’t see Futaba doing anything as aggressive as asking him out…

Ao Haru Ride

Ao Haru Ride… Yes… Yes… Even I caught wind of the hype surrounding Ao Haru Ride. At least it turned out to be one of those shows that somewhat lived up to it. I quite enjoyed the first episode and will continue to enjoy it if the remaining eleven episodes are just like the first.

Ao Haru RideI honestly wouldn’t change anything about the artwork. The characters look so simple and a bit plain, yet I am positive that I could pick them out of a hundred character line-up. I definitely like what I saw here. Yep.

I also quite like the story. It’s interesting and it shows a great deal of promise. The only thing that I’m worried about is that this is going to turn out to be one of those dead-end romances where nothing ever happens. That would be terribly disappointing.

I am going to carefully recommend this to romance fans. I am still slightly worried, but I am positive that this could be one of those rare shows where the main characters actually fall in love and end up together. We’ll see…

Plot Summary: Ao Haru Ride revolves around Futaba, a girl who was in love with a boy named Kō Tanaka in middle school. However, after a misunderstanding, their relationship as friends ends when he transfers schools over summer vacation. In high school, her world is turned around once again when she meets Kō again, this time under the name of Kō Mabuchi.
