Blade and Soul episode 05

This post is going to be very short. Not because I am in great pain because of my RSI. Not because I am bored or short on time. I am going to keep it short because I don’t want to write up a huge post about how much I freakin’ hated this episode.

[HorribleSubs] Blade and Soul - 05 [720p].mkv_snapshot_05.39_[2014.05.03_23.33.22]Bad episode. Yes, it contained a lot of action and quite a few interesting scenes. I admit that. But the fact that I had to watch twenty minutes of this as one particular male characters kept shouting kind of pisses me off. That character was annoying, loud and mentally unstable. He seemed like a junkie that suddenly decided to go after the source of his addiction.

I am not all that fond of Karen. She’s too cunning and very mysterious. I just don’t know what to think about her. Still, I cheered my ass off when she took care of that annoying prick that had been shouting throughout the episode. She may have moved up a spot, but I still don’t like her. She might become a serious problem for Aruka soon.

Blade and Soul episode 04

When talking about Aruka’s master, a powerful warrior that could fight off even the strongest opponent, you immediately start to think about some kind of huge demon with a huge sword or something like that. Never in a million years would I have thought about a tiny old man that looks like a cross between a goat and a dog with long ears.

[HorribleSubs] Blade and Soul - 04 [720p].mkv_snapshot_08.11_[2014.04.25_22.52.28]So Aruka fell off that cliff and she got saved by new characters. How predictable. Of course, the pattern still wasn’t completely at that point. Oh no. She had to befriend those characters, two poor children that had no parents, first before tragedy could befall them. That’s when that little boy started messing around with Aruka’s sword when she was still unconscious. He killed, robbed and threatened many people during that time, only to find out that people had come looking for him. That’s when the pattern became fully visible once again.

[HorribleSubs] Blade and Soul - 04 [720p].mkv_snapshot_20.12_[2014.04.25_22.52.53]Aruka tried her best to save that young man, but she was too late. He was shot and died on the spot. Aruka, at least, slit their throats to avenge the little warrior. That’s just how it seems to go, isn’t it? Aruka somehow meets new characters, befriends them and ends up killing more and more enemies in the end because of them.

Is Aruka strong now? Has she gained some kind of new strength after falling prey to Varel’s dark powers? Do not be surprised if she has. There’s a good reason why her clan was so important before they were all wiped out. I just want to see something different. Something that doesn’t follow the exactly same pattern… That’s all I want at this point.

Blade and Soul episode 03

You know, the funny thing about anime that has been adapted from games and the like, is that they focus quite a lot on the characters and their proportions. They often focus on the breasts and hipline, at least more than with manga adaptions, I think.

[HorribleSubs] Blade and Soul - 03 [720p].mkv_snapshot_05.00_[2014.04.18_23.44.11]I cannot help but notice a constant pattern here. Episode one: Aruka meets a couple of guys in her journey that take her to their village to become some kind of body guard. Episode two: Aruka arrives in some messed up city where she meets some no-name bounty hunter that starts out as her friend, but only wanted her so that she could pay for her drinks and is now doing her best to try and kill her because of the bounty on her head. Episodes three: Aruka, trying to fight off that girl from episode two, meets up with yet another characters, becomes acquainted after following her to her hideout, only to end up being blown away by the character that supposedly killed her master.

[HorribleSubs] Blade and Soul - 03 [720p].mkv_snapshot_21.40_[2014.04.18_23.44.49]Do you see the pattern now, too? Aruka arrives at whatever place, meets whatever character and ends up fighting for her life at the end. It could be that it’s only the first few episodes to bring all of the key characters into the picture, but I might actually stop writing about Blade and Soul if every single episode is like that.

You can already tell that they’re building up to the next episode using the exact same method. Aruka is now missing after being attacked by same crazy woman and her mysterious powers and that bounty hunter from episode two. She will probably get saved by someone or meet someone after dragging herself out of the water, become ‘friends’ and end up being attacked again. Isn’t that how these things usually go?

Blade and Soul episode 02

I knew I would write about Blade and Soul. I usually do when it comes to underrated shows. I saw people moan about Blade and Soul because it’s been adapted from a game. They said, and I quote; “anime that are adapter from games are worthless.”  – No… They’re not. Your taste is worthless, that’s all.

[HorribleSubs] Blade and Soul - 02 [720p].mkv_snapshot_07.57_[2014.04.11_23.07.25]You just continue to root for Aruka, a master assassin from the Clan of the Sword, as she continues her journey without backing down for anyone. She’s always on guard and ready to strike at any time. She proved this time and time again to characters that thought that saw her as an easy prey because of what she is (a woman).

That all being said, she does have quite a few weaknesses though. Her personality and lack of experience is definitely one of them. She listens to people too easily and accepts anything that she is given. That in itself is quite a big flaw when you have an entire empire on your ass that wants you dead. A very big flaw indeed.

[HorribleSubs] Blade and Soul - 02 [720p].mkv_snapshot_14.03_[2014.04.11_23.07.51]This episode could be used as a perfect example of that. Aruka met a girl whom happened to be a bounty hunter. When a poor bounty hunter and a girl with a bounty on her head start hanging out together… Well… Surely you don’t need anyone telling you that it’s about to go down, right? I mean, the girl ended up finding out about her and immediately tried to cash in by killing Aruka…

Also, I really don’t like that Karen character. She seems incredibly strong and lets people think that she’s this fair, kind lady that everyone should look up to. In reality she’s just as bad. “Water isn’t free here so you have to work it off” my ass. She probably just wants employee’s that won’t cost her anything. She is probably going to be a problem in the future.

Blade and Soul

I am loving this so far. So what if I get distracted by a couple of wobbling breasts every now and then? It’s so graphic and violent… It’s hard-core, man! I think Attack on Titan was the last anime I’ve seen that was as graphic as this. It also reminds me a bit of Zetman, another masterpiece to member.

Blade and SoulThe artwork is very good. You can clearly tell that they put a lot of work into it. It’s by no means a budget production and I have high hopes for it. I pretty much like all of the characters so far. A lot of unique features and very interesting personalities.

The story, well… It’s nothing special. I’m sure it’s been done a lot. A powerful warrior runs away after supposedly killing someone important, causing many powerful people to chase after said warrior until either party is dead. So maybe it’s not all that unique… Who cares?

I do recommend this. Look past the breasts. Look past the erotic-style comedy. Look at the big picture here, which would be a great piece with a lot of action. It’s the kind of show that allows for many great twists. I’m looking forward to it!

Plot Summary: Alka is an assassin for the Clan of the Sword. She’s on a journey to find the woman Jin Valel, who killed her master Hon. Jin is a demon-like woman who controls the Energy of Chaos and kills without feeling – not unlike how Alka has learned to kill in her work as an assassin. On her journey, Alka encounters three strange women, each great warriors in their own right, and grapples with her slain master’s wish that she leave the life of an assassin behind.
