Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge episode 05

This episode leaned a lot more towards comedy than anything else this time, no matter what anything else says. This is supposed to be thrilling and horrifying at times (are they sure about that?), but this episode was more like a comedy if you ask me.

[Mezashite] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 05v2 [BA3CDE19].mkv_snapshot_00.18_[2013.05.02_23.12.43]I can’t believe I got excited at first. Let’s face it; when you know that two teenagers of the opposite sex, whom have built up quite a relationship, go on some kind of camping trip then you might want to prepare yourself mentally for some romantic horror. A couple alone in the woods, only to find out that someone is coming for the girl’s life… That’s what was going through my mind at the time.

Never could I have imagined that Iwai-chan would end up crushing Kiri’s heart like that. It’s kind of stupid if you ask me. It’s quite clear that Kiri has a special place in her heart, yet she sees him only as the guy that cuts her hair every day. Is she stupid? Is she so inexperienced and naïve that she actually thinks of him as her own personal hairstylist,

[Mezashite] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 05v2 [BA3CDE19].mkv_snapshot_06.31_[2013.05.02_23.13.27]I’m not even going to start about how perverted their new enemies are. I mean, what in the name of hell was that!? The guy was fondling her breasts with a whip while she was licking it. Doesn’t their insanity know no bounds? What’s more, I cannot believe I was freaked out and jealous at the same time… That’s just pathetic on my part.

I’ll just finish this post before I have another “nerdgasm” and say that I’m quite fascinated by how that guy’s power works. Rather, how in the hell does it work? It’s not been explained yet, but he seems to possess some kind of tool that hypnotizes people. That’s quite handy if you’re a killer. You become capable of letting people do the dirty work while your own hands remain clean. I hope that we get to know a bit more about him and his abilities during the next episode.

Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge episode 04

I just love how time is moving forward in Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge. Normally you’d watch a show where the characters pretty much say the same age and have the same looks, but not here. Iwai-chan has a different look in almost every episode, plus she looks a bit older now. Or is that just me?

[Anime-Koi] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 04 [h264-720p][8490F582].mkv_snapshot_00.12_[2013.04.25_23.42.31]The biggest change this episode must’ve been them entering a new year of high school. They’re all a bit older, wiser perhaps, and they’re now also in the same class. That couldn’t possible go wrong… God… Iwai, Kiri and Yamane all in one class… It’s bad enough that Kiri has this perverted desire to cut Iwai’s hair, but now he has to be weary of Yamane as well.

I sense a disturbance in the force. That’s right, I just quoted a line out of star wars, just kill me already. It’s only a matter of time before Houko tells Yamane to do something that might harm Kiri and/or Iwai. Yamane might be in her way in becoming friends with those two, but at the end of the day she’ll do whatever Houko tells her to do.

All those murderers either are perverts or they attract them. During this episode we meet yet another murderer whose Killing Goods is a book, a book that allows him to kill criminals only. Kind of ingenious, but why the police lady? I know she probably has some sort of role, but did she have to be a pervert that gets off on getting choked until she’s unconscious? She’s funny, cute and has balls (it’s a metaphor, don’t worry), yet she turned out to be one of the biggest perverts in this show. I’m intrigued either way. Let’s see where they are going with this, shall we?

Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge episodes 02 & 03

I have to be honest, I wasn’t planning on writing about Dansai bunri no Crime Edge. It didn’t seem quite that promising at first. It was amusing to the point where I would be willing to follow the show, that’s it.

[Mezashite] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 02 [EC09260F].mkv_snapshot_14.20_[2013.04.18_23.48.01]That’s right, the first two episodes didn’t do much for me. The first episode introduced us to a strange boy that has a perverted interest in cutting hair. The second episode wasn’t that much better, where we got to know that insane teacher, a guy that knows everything about these “Killing Goods”, tools that are carried down from generation to generation, killer to killer. It seemed farfetched and I simply couldn’t see the romance. It was just a lot of action and a truckload of fantasy. You only got a slight glimpse of romance when that pervert was cutting Iwai-chan’s hair.

[Asenshi] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 03 [78F533CE].mkv_snapshot_14.05_[2013.04.18_23.49.03]Of course, that was until episode three arrived, the one episode that changed my mind about the whole thing, the one episode that actually made me want to write about Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge. There was so much action, horror and romance… How could I leave it? I’m not even talking about the scenes where Iwai was naked. Those were just small bonuses to me, nothing more.

I caught a glimpse of something more than just a romantic relationship between Kiri and Iwai. There are other characters that showed some interest in Kiri, so there might be something there. But the one thing that drew me in was Iwai. I just can’t get over how cute she is. It’s too bad that Kiri keeps cutting her hair short. I think long hair becomes her.

Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge

Seriously now, what the hell did I just watch? Is it a horror show? A comedy show? Maybe romance? I don’t know. I can only label it as weird right now. It’s like they’re trying so hard to make it into a drama with a lot of horror, but that they don’t realize that the strange comedy is kind of preventing them from doing anything of the sort.

Dansai Bunri no Crime EdgeThe artwork isn’t that bad, yet I’ve seen plenty of things I would’ve done differently. The heroine, Iwai, is by far one of the best things about the artwork. She’s like a younger and cuter version of Rapunzel, which is why I was kind of disappointed when he managed to cut her hair at the end of the first episode.

It’s definitely the story that’s the problem here. What am I supposed to watch here? Is it about a girl whose hair can only be cut by magical scissors? Is it about a strange, perverted boy that goes nuts when he sees a girl with long hair? I don’t really know yet. All I can say right now is that you really need to have an open mind for this particular story.

The hardest part about this review is that I have no idea to whom I should recommend this. I suppose fantasy and romance fans wouldn’t mind watching this, but what about the people that don’t like (cheap) horror and comedy? I simply advise you to watch the first episode. Do you like it? Great! Do you not? Well, that’s too bad, but there’s plenty of other shows to choose from this season.

Plot Summary: Haimura Kiri is a seemingly ordinary boy with one slight problem: he is obsessed with cutting other people’s hair. One day he meets Mushiyanokouji Iwai, the “Hair Queen” who cannot cut her hair because of an inherited curse. Kiri finds out that his scissor, “Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge” is the only thing that can cut them. But little did he know that their meeting sparked the start of an old murder game to kill the “Hair Queen” using the cursed killing tools, the “Killing Goods.” Can Kiri protect Iwai from the Killing Goods Owners? Let the game begin!
