Devil Survivor 2 The Animation episode 05

What is up with this weird episode? It feels like they skipped a big chunk of information. I had to be sure I had seen last week’s episode before I continued watching this one, it’s simply that weird. Maybe I’m high though? It’s possible that someone spiked my Seven Up.

[HorribleSubs] DEVIL SURVIVOR 2 THE ANIMATION - 05 [720p].mkv_snapshot_10.16_[2013.05.03_23.16.49]Remember how last week’s episode ended with some unknown guy? Well, he wanted to tell Hibiki about Yamato and his true objectives. That’s pretty much where it ended, yet I started watching this episode and Hibiki has already become part of their resistance group, seems to be wearing slightly different clothes (is that just me? Or were those gay-looking bunny ears already part of his outfit?) and has obtained a new demon. What happened? What happened between the point where he followed that guy back and the point where he appeared with that new demon by his side? I might have to watch the whole episode again later, because this makes no sense. I’ve missed something.

[HorribleSubs] DEVIL SURVIVOR 2 THE ANIMATION - 05 [720p].mkv_snapshot_17.24_[2013.05.03_23.17.37]It seems that Hibiki’s new demon is kind of special as well. It’s powerful and it’s one of those “legendary” four demons, some kind of ancient bird that supposedly represents the south. It also came to my attention that a character has place for six demons (there were six slots on his phone). That’s always nice to know.

I must say that I’m looking forward to the next episode. Sure, I’m missing a few important details, but I want to see that match between Hibiki and Yamato. Yamato has a powerful demon as well, but does he know that Hibiki now has two of them? That’s what I said from the beginning; never join an organisation like that, because it only leads to trouble (even though he joined another one right after).

Devil Survivor 2 The Animation episode 04

Here they come, here come feelings of regret. Why did I actually have to write about this one? I knew from the very beginning that it would aggravate the living hell out of me. Stories where organisations take over aren’t really meant for guys like me.

[HorribleSubs] DEVIL SURVIVOR 2 THE ANIMATION - 04 [720p].mkv_snapshot_06.23_[2013.04.26_23.34.46]So yeah, Hibiki failed to prevent his friend from dying. The future isn’t easily changed, I guess. But at least he tried to stop others from dying. Yeah, he tried, tried and failed once again. Enemy demon invades the city, other demon owners gather and attack it together, fail and die. That’s pretty much how I would describe this one episode; mass failure.

There is one thing that these stories have in common; the leader, in this case Yamato, always hides a few things from his/her subjects. It’s pretty much the same here. Yamato is clearly hiding something, which makes him just as dangerous as the demon that almost destroyed the city, but that is something that Hibiki will have to discover on his own.

[HorribleSubs] DEVIL SURVIVOR 2 THE ANIMATION - 04 [720p].mkv_snapshot_15.32_[2013.04.26_23.35.17]Anyway, Hibiki powered up again (surprise…) and allowed for Byakko to take care of that enemy demon. Byakko’s blue lighting turned red and he took off with incredible speed. That’s how it should be done, just like that! It was interesting, but I’m more interesting in knowing more about the guy that showed up near the end. He should be able to tell us a bit more about “JP” and what they’re really about.

This last piece I decided to keep to share a bit of info that you undoubtedly have noticed as well. Characters in the show often have the same demons, which probably means that a demon can exist multiple times at once. I’m not sure if that includes Byakko too though. I’m quite interesting in this concept, so I’m hoping to learn more as time passes.

Devil Survivor 2 The Animation episode 03

Devil Survivor 2: The Animation continues to amaze me even now. The drama is terrific and I love how they’re not afraid to show how characters die. Makes me wonder why I spent so much time watching Digimon when I could’ve been watching stuff like this (in the future).

[HorribleSubs] DEVIL SURVIVOR 2 THE ANIMATION - 03 [720p].mkv_snapshot_06.53_[2013.04.19_23.53.16]I’m finally starting to understand how things work here. Characters aren’t stuck to one demon. They can have multiple and, from what I’ve seen so far, characters get a new one when a demon gets destroyed beyond repair. That’s a pretty interesting system, a system that resembles MMORPG’s, games where the player can create multiple character, level and gear them up to make them stronger.

It got me thinking; Hibiki has Byakko, a very rare demon with incredible powers. It’s safe to assume that there aren’t many of them out there, which is why Hibiki got recruited right away. I wonder… Will Hibiki lose Byakko when he gets destroyed? Or is that demon permanently bound to Hibiki? One thing is certain; one can own more than one demon.

[HorribleSubs] DEVIL SURVIVOR 2 THE ANIMATION - 03 [720p].mkv_snapshot_13.38_[2013.04.19_23.54.44]The thing that surprised me the most was when they showed us that twist with Keita’s death. Keita went out to find Fumi, their long lost professor, when suddenly a video of his death surfaced. Everyone, of course, rushed to his aid in order to prevent him from dying. It seemed to work at first; Hinako and her demon managed to save him from being impaled, only to see how he died after the battle was over. Fumi was being controlled by some kind of demon, the same demon that attacked and killed Keita near the end. I was truly amazed by that twist, because I thought that Keita’s death was avoided when he was saved by Hinako’s demon. Damn, I can’t wait for the next episode…

Devil Survivor 2 The Animation episode 02

I have decided to give this show a chance. I already know it’s going to aggravate the living hell out of me, but what the hell. I just hope that they won’t focus too much on one thing, because that would be boring as hell.

[HorribleSubs] DEVIL SURVIVOR 2 THE ANIMATION - 02 [720p].mkv_snapshot_05.35_[2013.04.13_00.10.23]The episode started out as I had predicted. I knew that Hibiki, one of the main characters that summoned a very powerful demon avatar, would eventually end up in the pocket of that organisation. It may be too fast for some, but no, I knew this would happened after those goons got a hold of them.

I tried to understand why he would do that. Why join an organisation that held both you and your friends against your wills. They even took away their phones. That alone would be enough to decline their invitation and leave, providing they’d let me. To hell with their “let’s save the world” crap. Hibiki would probably do fine with just his friends by his side.

[HorribleSubs] DEVIL SURVIVOR 2 THE ANIMATION - 02 [720p].mkv_snapshot_17.15_[2013.04.13_00.11.05]Oh well, they joined, that’s the end of that. I won’t go on about why they joined, but let’s just say that things will be difficult from now on. I don’t suppose the higher-ups will tell them a lot about what’s going on or what they’re supposed to do in order to save the world, providing they’ll tell them anything at all. I mean, we have yet to see if that guy was speaking the truth. Maybe the world isn’t ending at all. Maybe that guy just wants more power, something every organisation can’t get enough of. It’s going to be a tough journey, that’s for sure.

Devil Survivor 2 The Animation

Win! This makes Digimon look like cheap crap that one only watches in prison or something. I cannot believe how I missed this? I already read up on this season’s anime a few weeks ago, yet this one never really caught my eye. It’s quite funny how this one episode ended up blowing my mind.

Devil Survivor 2 The AnimationI remember what I thought when I was a few minutes in; “okay, so now what? Is it just a bunch of pretty pictures?”, when suddenly those monsters showed up and raised hell. The characters look great, the backgrounds look great and those demons are amazing, although I’ve got the feeling as though I’ve seen Byakko, one of the demons in the show, before somewhere.

In the end I’m happy that I didn’t really read up on this one. I thought that it was going to be a silly show about some stupid game where people die because of some game, only to find out that it’s about something else entirely. It’s too bad that there’s always some kind of organisation involved though in these types of anime.

Watch it. Just go watch it already. Don’t even think about dropping this after you’ve only seen the first episode. Give it a real shot, because it shows a great deal of promise. I just hope that it won’t become one of those tiresome struggles between rival organisations.

Plot Summary: Mysterious invaders called the Septentriones arrive in Japan and begin attacking the country on a Sunday. To fight back, the heroes in Devil Survivor 2 signed a pact with the devil to become the Thirteen Devil Messengers. The Septentriones show up at least once a day and you have a time limit of seven days to defeat them.
