Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun 2 episode 05

Finally some long-awaited clarity this week. More and more question marks arose with every passing episode, so having seen this episode felt really refreshing and fulfilling. I finally have a rough idea of what is in store for us and what this season is about.

[Anime-Koi] Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun - 18 [h264-720p][F03495C1].mkv_snapshot_03.41_[2013.08.08_23.12.44]So the conflict basically continued where it left out; Sousuke walked in and saw how his twin tried to tease Shino. It’s nice to know that Sousuke is fully capable of striking his twin if he ever needs to, very reassuring indeed. I honestly wish I could say the same thing about Shino, whom stood by and didn’t do much to resolve the situation. He didn’t even end up getting Sousuke’s bead back, which was an unpleasant discovery for Sousuke. He didn’t know that his twin was in possession of his bead, he just thought that Shino was keeping it safe like he was supposed to. Too bad that Sousuke isn’t the kind of person to get upset easily.

It’s nice to know that Sousuke’s twin isn’t only after body parts. He’s looking for power. In this case a spirit. It was his plan to obtain Yana’s complete form, a powerful spirit all in all. In the end he did become host to a weakened Yana, but he seemed to be reluctant, eager to head out and find a new, stronger spirit.

I can only imagine that he’s ‘completing’ himself. I doubt he’s going after more spirits (something about spirits conflicting with one another inside the host), so now he must be going after something else. He has that eye, that sword and now that spirit… What’s next? That’s the kind of mystery that makes me want to keep on watching!

Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun 2 episode 04

Yeah, I knew it. I knew they would follow up with Sousuke’s (evil) twin as soon as I saw him during last week’s ending. I can only imagine that he is going to be appearing a lot more often now that the second season is almost halfway over.

[Anime-Koi] Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun - 17 [h264-720p][1AFA8E93].mkv_snapshot_06.56_[2013.08.01_23.40.04]I didn’t know that they would bring in another character right away. I thought that they were going to focus a bit more in Sousuke’s twin. Although I must admit that this girl, a priestess of sorts that plays host to a deity, seems very interesting. We have plenty of episodes left to focus on Sousuke’s twin, so this is fine.

It seems that girl is under the impression that her guardian, Yana, has passed away somehow, yet she still bears his mark and loses consciousness from time to time. She does not know that Yana is still alive, and that he is attacking (random?) people. I find it strange that the people around her have not yet noticed this.

[Anime-Koi] Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun - 17 [h264-720p][1AFA8E93].mkv_snapshot_18.14_[2013.08.01_23.41.27]I can only imagine that this is happening after Sousuke’s twin took over the other half of Yana’s mark. It seems that Yana’s other half was a deer, so I’m guessing that Sousuke’s twin killed that deer and/or took over his powers. That might explain why that girl thinks he’s dead, I think.

The pieces of the puzzle are very slowly falling into place, but what about Sousuke’s twin? Can he already control that power at will? Is he actually the one that’s controlling Yana at this point? This episode just gave me a whole lot more questions. This is how it should be! I am really looking forward to seeing what Sousuke will do to his twin during the next episode!

Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun 2 episode 03

Hey now, this turned out to be quite a nice episode. I didn’t expect that after the preview I had seen last week. This turned out to be a good week after all, huh? I can only hope that they can keep this up.

[Anime-Koi] Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun - 16 [h264-720p][DCF2E5B1].mkv_snapshot_09.36_[2013.07.25_13.58.01]I got to be honest that it was looking pretty boring at first; Shino was left in charge of a couple of kids, Sousuke was doing something that’s not worth doing (in my humble opinion), and now we had to deal with a lingering spirit that was looking after his business and family… Yeah, quite a surprising episode if you ask me.

Let’s tackle that sprit thing first; an old man looking out for his business and family by asking Shino for advice on creating new recipes? Yeah… That’s a bit too much, don’t you think? Never would I have imagined that Shino was to give an old guy advice on how to make steamed buns with all sorts of gooey stuff inside. That was quite strange.

[Anime-Koi] Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun - 16 [h264-720p][DCF2E5B1].mkv_snapshot_16.23_[2013.07.25_14.03.10]I must say that things were still pretty good if you somewhat ignore that ghost business. Shino was left to care for a group of children that refused to listen to his teachings. Only a little blind girl decided to stay and listen to his stories. I, of course, made the assumption that that little girl was a bit special, that she was in possession of one of those beads.

I liked this episode because it was pretty mysterious. We focussed almost an entire episode on this little girl that turned out to be pretty normal, or was she? I mean, Sousuke’s evil double showed up at the end to have a little talk with her. They wouldn’t normally show us that if there was something going on with that girl, right? I may watch the episode again later to see if I have missed something. I just hope that I won’t get to see a dead blind girl with missing body parts during the next episode.

Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun 2 episode 02

How could I not? I shamed myself by not writing about the first season, thinking that it wasn’t interesting enough, but I refuse to make the same mistake twice! I simply cannot find the right words to describe just how interesting this show really is.

[Anime-Koi] Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun - 15 [h264-720p][3BD7FE20].mkv_snapshot_10.54_[2013.07.19_23.54.44]I must say that the second season started off pretty nicely. We met a lot of new characters and saw a lot of new moves. I think it’s brilliant that Shino and Sousuke are out on a mission to find all of the people with those little shiny balls (no phun intended).

The only thing I would’ve done differently is Shino’s appearance. I think it would be nice to see his adult side every now and again, just like when Murasame went berserk during the first season, allowing Shino to take on his real form. The possibilities would be practically endless if Shino somehow managed to take on his real form instead of constantly looking like a thirteen year-old boy.

[Anime-Koi] Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun - 15 [h264-720p][3BD7FE20].mkv_snapshot_18.14_[2013.07.19_23.55.02]My favourite character is still Murasame though. He’s hilarious when he’s not doing anything, he’s badass when he’s ready to fight, but he’s absolutely epic when he goes berserk. Also, I think that whole “he who possesses Murasame will undoubtedly meet a tragic end” thing sounds brilliant. I can’t wait to see how this thing ends.

It is quite obvious that Shino stands in the centre of all of this, and that Riou is trying very hard to either protect or control Shino. Maybe a combination of both? It is quite obvious that Riou knows what’s going on and that he’s planning to do something when Shino has found all of the beads and their owners. Things will get better from here on out, I’m sure of that.

Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun 2

Whoops, I almost forgot about this one. I’m a bit ashamed, too, because I was really looking forward to the second season after having enjoyed the first season a lot. I might actually read the manga when this is all over.

Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun 2The artwork is still so amazing… I love the characters, all of them. Shino is still cool, Murasame is still the most awesome spirit in the show and the sceneries will never seize to amaze. I speak so highly about the artwork when it’s only the second best thing about this show.

The story is definitely what makes you want to keep on watching. There’s a subtle hint of comedy that puts a smile on your face whilst you enjoy the rest of this action-filled fantasy land. There’s rarely a dull moment and the predictability of this story is ever so low, which is something I really like.

Watch it! You cannot pass this one by when we’re having such a mediocre season filled with slice of life works. Go watch the first season if you haven’t already, it’s definitely worth it. It’s one of the few pieces that makes this otherwise dull summer season worthwhile.

Plot Summary: When their village was wiped out five years ago, only Shino Inuzuka, Sosuke Inukawa, and the girl Hamaji, who was raised as if she were their sister, survived. And both men inexplicably have the same peony-shaped birthmark. Genpachi Inukai and Kobungo Inuta were raised hundreds of miles away as foster brothers, but they too share the same birthmark. When they went north as part of the army three years ago, they went to confront demons and came back forever transformed. Now the Imperial Church has come for Shino and Sosuke and they must find eight mystical gems and their owners or face a fate worse than death at the hands of the Church.
