Kyoukai no Kanata episode 04

Wow, this episode really explains a whole lot. I really expected to see an episode where Akihito just got in the way of Mirai and his mission. But no, this episode was actually quite pleasant and impressive. I could do with more of this.

So… Akihito, huh? Turns out that he’s not as immortal as he wants people to believe he is. He does have weaknesses, he does have a story to tell and he definitely is not the type of character you want to piss off. I honestly just thought that he was kind of a coward that relied too much on his regenerative abilities.

Keep in mind that all the characters were still within the grasp of that powerful Youmu. They were seeing one illusion after the other. Having that girl, Sakura, chase them around with that weapon of hers didn’t make things easier for them. Nothing beats a young girl’s thirst for vengeance, nothing. She’ll be back soon enough.

[HorribleSubs] Kyoukai no Kanata - 04 [720p].mkv_snapshot_18.31_[2013.10.24_23.34.03]Allow me to focus on what’s important though. Never mind the fact that Mirai-chab, because of her amazing ability, gets anaemic if she uses her ability too long. Just creating that sword should take up about half a pint of blood (if not more).

No, the spotlight goes to Akihito this time. He has been living with a dreadful power that he cannot control. His Youmu side completely takes over if he gets hurt too badly. It’s probably a defensive mechanism triggered by basic survival instincts. I guess the Youmu in him feels the need for survival a lot stronger than the human in him. I think that’s quite fitting, seeing as Youmu are kind of seen as supernatural animals in their world. Definitely a very interesting turn of events!

Kyoukai no Kanata episode 03

It is really tough to write three posts a day for almost two weeks in a row. It burns up a lot of free time. I have one or two posts left to write, but I think it’s best to save those for tomorrow, seeing as there’s no Naruto Shippuuden this week.

[HorribleSubs] Kyoukai no Kanata - 03 [720p].mkv_snapshot_06.01_[2013.10.17_14.12.10]Anyway, it’s Friday today, which means it’s time for yet another Kyoukai no Kanata post! I’d like to start this off by saying that Akihito needs to grow a pair of balls soon. The guy is half human and half Youmu. That is supposedly very rare in their world and it’s probably the reason why he’s immortal. You can stab him, blow him up or shoot him up, he’ll just generate again.

Okay, the guy is not a fighter from what I’ve seen thus far. But still, the guy is immortal… Just grow a pair and help out your friends in their time of need. Mirai told him to stay away from her after he helped her out again… Don’t! Keep pressuring her. Keep helping her. She’ll give in eventually. It’s the only way you can help her. That girl just needs a friend.

[HorribleSubs] Kyoukai no Kanata - 03 [720p].mkv_snapshot_19.42_[2013.10.17_14.13.04]I understand that Mirai is special. Her people, people that were also capable of manipulating blood, are no more. The girl is isolated and filled with remorse because she thinks she’s responsible for her friend’s death. The worst part is that I can’t disagree with that. There’s a powerful Youmu that seems to follow her around. That friend of her was simply a casualty of war. Nothing more.

The question is; how do you kill something that doesn’t have a physical body? Mirai’s ability is awesome and all, but it’s still pretty useless when she doesn’t know where to attack. Find that Youmu’s weak spot and attack, that’s the only way. I can only hope that Mirai’s sufficiently motivated now that she has someone to protect.

Kyoukai no Kanata episode 02

I would feel like a complete idiot if I chose Coppelion over Kyoukai no Kanata. Coppelion is a great watch, but this one has a lot more to offer. I’m actually looking forward to seeing some of Mirai’s best moves.

[HorribleSubs] Kyoukai no Kanata - 02 [720p].mkv_snapshot_04.48_[2013.10.10_22.12.27]Let’s keep in mind that this is a show about supernatural beings that hunt, kill and sell other supernatural beings for cash. You could call it their job. There’s more to it than that, but that’s what it comes down to. It’s a fascinating idea that allows for a lot of possibilities. That’s why I decided to write about it.

I wasn’t sure about the show’s sense of comedy. I thought it was misplaced, unnecessary and a bit childish. This episode blew away all of those worries. I loved that part with Akihito’s strange mother and how the others reacted to it. It was hilarious. I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing some more of those scenes.

[HorribleSubs] Kyoukai no Kanata - 02 [720p].mkv_snapshot_19.14_[2013.10.10_22.13.09]I’m looking forward to seeing more of this. I want to know how that system of theirs work. What exactly happens to those creatures when they get defeated? How does one determine their value? It’s all something that I really want to know. I just hope that it won’t take up half the episodes before I finally get some answers.

Anyway, I’m hopeful. I find Mirai and her abilities interesting. She reminds me of some of the characters from Deadman Wonderland, another anime where characters can manipulate their blood and use it to kill other characters. It’s an awesome ability because of the risk involved; the amount of blood in one’s body is limited, so you can’t use too much of it.

Kyoukai no Kanata

Nice! This season is starting out pretty good. I’m a pretty big fan of shows where characters have special abilities. The bad thing about these types of shows is that the characters sometimes gain an unexplainable power boost that messed up the story.

Kyoukai no KanataAnyway, the artwork is pretty good. They focused quite a bit on the details and the characters look pretty interesting. It’s no surprise that Mirai-chan is probably going to be everyone’s favourite character. Especially since she has such an interesting ability.

I’m guessing, based on what I’ve seen so far, that the story is what really counts here. It’s quite original, it’s interesting and it could easily run many months without it getting boring.

I most certainly recommend this show. It’s interesting, pretty funny, has a hint of romance and a lot of supernatural action. I’m pretty sure that this show will prove to be quite memorable when it finished airing.

Plot Summary: Akihito Kanbara is a high school sophomore in the literature club who believes himself to be a “Meganest”, and although he appears to be human, he is actually half Yōmu, which makes him invulnerable to wounds, due to the fact that he can heal so quickly, and also immortal. One day, Akihito meets freshman Mirai Kuriyama when it appears as if she is about to attempt suicide by jumping off of the school rooftop. Mirai is isolated because of her ability to manipulate blood, which is considered heresy even among other members of the underworld, so she is shunned. Soon after Akihito saves Mirai, disturbing events begin to arise.
