One Week Friends episode 04

I’m afraid that I’m going to have to keep this post short this week. I’m tired from work, my RSI is acting up again and this episode didn’t really do it for me anyway. The magic in One Week Friends is slowly starting to fade.

[HorribleSubs] One Week Friends - 04 [720p].mkv_snapshot_10.08_[2014.04.28_22.41.22]So little Kaori and the ever so annoying Yuuki had their first fight during this episode and Yuuki finally showed the world what a pathetic little worm he is. He’s jealous, quite self-centred and easily irritated. Do I really want to ever-so-cute Koari to be his girlfriend? I don’t know… It seems to me like she could do a whole lot better.

Kaori lost her diary after their fight and Yuuki did everything in his power to find it. Was it to help her or was it to ensure that she continued to remember? Doesn’t really matter seeing as her memory keeps improving every week, but I cannot help but think negatively of Yuuki. He’s like one of those control freaks that loses himself quite easily. Things are not looking pretty for Kaori right now…

One Week Friends episode 03

Good episode. A very, very good and productive episode! You can clearly see how they’re going to do this. Well, you can’t see how, but you get an idea of what to expect. I certainly like it. This way Kaori doesn’t recover just overnight. We can follow her recovery weekly. I like that a lot!

[HorribleSubs] One Week Friends - 03 [720p].mkv_snapshot_03.08_[2014.04.21_22.42.54]So Yuuki decided to bring his most trusted and arguably oldest friend to the rooftop to tell him about Kaori’s little secret. This is brilliant. He doesn’t take things for granted and he says what’s on his mind. It’s no wonder that he didn’t believe it when they told him about Kaori’s mental problems, but he wasn’t too obnoxious about it, because he took the time to assess the situation and point out to them that this sort of thing usually only happens because of physical trauma or mental trauma. He even managed to link it to something that may have happened to Kaori in the past, which is why she only blocks out friends. A bit obvious, but still kind of smart.

[HorribleSubs] One Week Friends - 03 [720p].mkv_snapshot_14.10_[2014.04.21_22.43.15]This guy, Shougo, seems like a very relaxed and intelligent character. He doesn’t strike me as the type that bullies others. On the contrary; he seems rather helpful and doesn’t mind jumping in the middle when others are arguing. He definitely seems rather reliable. Too bad he can’t properly voice his opinions in a less aggressive way.

Anyway, Kaori has started to remember little things. That’s all that really matters here. Now she remembers making things like eggs, next week she might remember something else. A few weeks from now she might remember Yuuki altogether and finally have a normal life instead of pushing everyone away. It’s definitely a good start.

One Week Friends episode 02

Man, I just have to. I am completely hooked on One Week Friends since the moment I saw the first episode. The entire concept is interesting and the characters are just superb. There is just no way that I wouldn’t write about this.

[HorribleSubs] One Week Friends - 02 [720p].mkv_snapshot_05.16_[2014.04.14_23.43.08]You just got to root for Yuuki. The guy probably follows a certain guide, probably; “life will knock you down more times than you can possibly imagine. Don’t knock yourself down” – Adam Braverman. That being said, he swallows whatever pride he has left and still approaches her with the intention of becoming her friend once and for all. She keeps forgetting about him at the end of the week and he just has to start over again.  He’s right, you know? It takes courage to walk up to some unknown person and start a conversation that might or might not lead to friendship (or more). It really does.

[HorribleSubs] One Week Friends - 02 [720p].mkv_snapshot_21.49_[2014.04.14_23.43.46]I thought that part about the diary brilliant. Simple and obvious, but brilliant. I liked it because it turned out that he did it more for himself than for Kaori. I thought it was quite ingenious. Kaori may not remember it at the end of the week, but at least she can read about what kind of friend Yuuki was to her. That should help.

Now, will Kaori ever recover? Maybe. If she does then it’ll be at the end. Her losing memory every week is pretty much the biggest charm that One Week Friends has to offer. In fact, the entire story revolves around Kaori and her memory. Still, do I want to see her recover in the end? I most certainly do. Everyone deserves to be happy.

Isshuukan Friends

Aha, a tear-jerker. Not bad. I could definitely understand if people would cry when watching this. The inability to make friends because of a strange mental condition is one thing, but when some guy steps into your life, accepts it and still tries to make friends with you every single week… Yeah… You’ll cry.

Isshuukan FriendsArtwork… Superb! I could not look away. The characters look great, their expressions look great and I already want to see more of this. This couldn’t possibly become horrible because of the artwork, that’s for sure.

It all comes down to the story, really… How will Kaori keep reacting to Yuuki? Will Yuuki give up? It all comes down to how they are going to play this. They’ve got great artwork and a great story so far… There’s almost no way that this could fail!

I fully recommend this. I enjoy it a lot, and that’s not something I say every day about slice of life anime. I have high hopes for this and I am already thinking about writing about the other eleven episodes.

Plot Summary: High schooler Yūki Hase notices that his classmate Kaori Fujimiya is always alone, and seemingly has no friends. After approaching her Kaori reveals that she loses every memory of her friends each Monday. Despite learning this, Yūki endeavors to become her new friend every week.
