This is going to be a close call. The first episode went exactly like I imagined when I first read up on Buddy Complex. But hey, Infinite Stratos: IS and Kakumeiki Valvrave just ended, so I’m guessing that Japan needs a new dose of mecha anime to keep their community running.
The artwork isn’t bad. The mechs look good, the characters look good, although not that ‘special’, and it’s quite detailed. They even nailed the character expressions. Everything seems to be just right for now.
The story… Meh. It’s done plenty of times… Time travel, mechs that require a partner with whom you must synchronize and main characters that suddenly end up on a battlefield without realizing it. They are going to have to do a lot of stuff in order to impress me when the foundation of this story has been done so many times that it almost makes my eyes bleed.
Mecha fans will watch this for sure. Do I recommend this? I really can’t just now. It didn’t make a big enough impact. I’m sure action and mecha fans will give this a go either way, but those that prefer other things might not enjoy it as much. Did you like the terminator movies or series? Give this a chance.
Plot Summary: The story will revolve around the friendship and coming-of-age of two boys. It begins with Aoba Watase, a boy who goes to high school in Tokyo and lives a carefree daily life. On the morning of his school’s opening ceremony after summer vacation, he goes to campus as usual, but he has a chance encounter with another boy.
