Hmm… Yes… Another ‘okay’ mech anime joins the picture. I’m just happy that it’s not one of those childish shows that are ruined by cheap comedy and poor storylines. This one actually shows quite a bit of promise.
I like the artwork so far. The mech looks great and the details are pretty impressive. The one thing that bothered me is that transformation scene. It sure takes up a lot of time. I don’t want to see that every single time a mech gets launched into outer space, no matter how amusing it was the first time.
I’m going to be painfully obvious. The story is nothing special. These things always follow similar patterns and only a couple of variables get changed each time. A boy suddenly becomes a pilot that will fight against superior enemies from space. That’s all there is to it.
I suppose mech and sci-fi fans will enjoy this either way. It’s not a budget production and it really does show promise. I’m sure even I will come to like it if I continue to watch the show.
Plot Summary: One night right before summer vacation, Daichi Manatsu, a second-year in high school, sees a weird round rainbow floating in the sky above Tanegashima and ventures there alone. He has seen this rainbow before. With the memories of his father’s mysterious death and an encounter of a mysterious boy and girl, Daiji arrives on the island while the alarm of a building labeled “Earth Engine” is going off. Someone asks him if he’s a captain, just as robotic intruders from Uranus called “Kiltgang” arrive. The battle around the shining stars is about to begin.
