Chihayafuru episode 07

Darn, I was hoping to see more of the developing situation between Arata and Chihaya. I’ve been curious ever since Chihaya and Taichi went to visit Arata. I wonder if those two have been texting or talking to one another on the phone.

Chihaya and Taichi finally started their own Karuta club. Well Chihaya started the club, Taichi just got dragged in to it by her, as to be expected. Kanade, a cute girl from at their school, decided to join their club too. I have no idea why girls would willingly join that type of club. I know Chihaya is a girl too, and quite a fanatic one at that, but she’s more of a tomboy. I just hope that she manages to find two more members, because a club needs at least six members in order to get the school’s approval. They are not allowed to do anything without being approved first.

Chihaya, in order to get the best of the best, aimed for the top right away. She decided to recruit the school’s two top students, because she thinks that intelligence is everything in Karuta. Her first target was the school’s number two, some guy who never leaves his desk to study. Seriously, never… He even ended up taking his desk with him after being dragged to the clubroom by Chihaya.  He looked down on them, saying that “smart people” wouldn’t waste their time by playing games like that. However, he also said that he would give it some thought if the two managed to play Karuta with the cards turned upside-down.

Chihaya didn’t hesitate. She played against Taichi and actually ended up losing. Chihaya is fast, but she has trouble memorizing the cards on short notice, which seems to be Taichi’s strongest point, which is why he won. I guess we’ll see whether ‘deskboy’ will join the Karuta club or not in the very next episode.
