Escha & Logy no Atelier

I already heard of this one. There’s a manga and one or two games if I remember correctly. You’d think something with that kind of pedigree would be worth an eight at the very least, right? I honestly wouldn’t go any higher than a six and a half.

Escha & Logy no AtelierGive credit where credit is due; the artwork is great. I really, really like it. The characters look nice, it’s pretty detailed and I simply love that old “western” feeling it has. Mix that in with a little bit of fantasy and you really have something here… Yeah, the artwork is good.

The problem here is the story. What am I supposed to expect here? What is the point? Is it about a boy and a girl and their careers? I honestly don’t know what to think of it. All I know is that it didn’t really seem all that interesting.

Fantasy fans will probably love this because of the artwork. Why wouldn’t they? It looks very nice. But the people that enjoy a good story might drop this after watching the first episode. It all comes down to personal taste.

Plot Summary: In order to survive the eventual arrival of the “Dusk End,” people of the western reaches of the “Land of Dusk” devoted their efforts to rediscover and recreate lost alchemic technologies. Those technologies were then gathered in the alchemy city known as “Central,” where research was conducted on how to halt the advance of the twilight. Having learned the newest alchemic techniques in Central, young alchemist Logy requested a transfer to an understaffed town of Colseit on the frontier to make use of his abilities. There he meets Escha, an apprentice girl assigned to the Development Department. Together, the two make a promise to use their alchemic techniques to bring success to the Development Department.
