Fate/Zero episode 09

It’s here! I was getting a little bit impatient. This episode was really infuriating, and not in a good way. This war is completely filled with psychopaths that would do anything to get what they want, and now a new one joins the party. I agree that it takes all types of people to make the world go round, but why must nine out of ten be psychopaths?

Kayneth, who got defeated by Kiritsugu in the last episode, is not doing so well. He barely survived and is now unable to use any kind of magic, but that’s the least of his problems. His ‘guardian angel’ is Sola, a psychopath that threatened him to hand over his Command Seals. She was willing to do anything that god forbids to him in order to obtain those Seals.

Kayneth, as expected, gave in and agreed to give her his Command Seals. She then lied to Lancer about her motives for wanting the Holy Grail, only so that Lancer would actually help her obtain it. Lancer didn’t even want to fight alongside her, he only accepted because she swore to use it to save Kayneth, which was clearly a lie. I just don’t understand why Kayneth didn’t call for Lancer when he was being threatened like that, he could’ve easily killed her.

Meanwhile Waver and Rider found Caster’s hideout with the use of Waver’s alchemic skills. They didn’t wait too long to infiltrate, only to find an empty hideout filled with children’s bodies.  Their trip wasn’t for nothing though, because they found out that Assassin wasn’t actually dead when three of them tried to ambush them.  They retreated whilst setting fire to that hideout, merely in the hope that it might slow Caster down, if anything.

The reason why I got so agitated is because of that Sola. I got so annoyed when she actually managed to pull it off. Caster was the one who I wanted dead first, but Sola, after seeing this episode, has officially taken his place. She must die!

The first season is nearing its end, so I’m pretty sure she’ll die soon.  I don’t think they are going to end the season without getting rid of at least one server and/or master.

  1. Kayneth didn’t kill Sola when she threatened him because he actually loved her. And it’s not really her fault that she did what she did, by this point she was already half crazy due to Lancer’s mole.
If this adaption will follow the source material faithfully, only one servant(s) will be taken out by the end of the season. It’s the second season when shit really starts.

  2. Wuss! Whether he loved her or not… If your life is on the line then you don’t hesitate to kill. It’s called survival instinct.

same here btw, gd! I got pretty mad too, I can’t stand those types of scenes, I tend to take it personall. :P

  3. Kayneth has to shoulder the blame for this scenario. Once he decided that his fiancee Sola would participate in the Holy Grail war (extra command seals or something) and he learned the identity of his servant, he should have seen this possibility, that his curse would charm any female, no matter who, and prepared for it (give the fiancee some protection, some trinket that negates the charm spell).

That he left it to chance, despite the knowledge, despite being a master level mage, is entirely his fault. Yes, Kayneth is arrogant, but this is irrational to a fault.

    • I don’t think there were extra command seals. Just the ones he had left.

And he has to shoulder nothing. As of now he no longer has any attachment to this battle. He is no longer a master, therefor any and all related responsibility falls under Sola, Lancer’s current master.
