Hajime no Ippo: Rising episode 04
I really love this pace! Normally we’d spend two or three episodes (at least) on a single match, especially during important matches. Ippo’s title match was over in no-time and Masaru’s match is already well on its way. That’s insane. I love it!
One finds the ambition, pours his love, blood, sweat and tears into becoming that which he has always wanted, a boxer, and finally reaches the point where he can call himself a champion boxer. That’s right, Masaru’s opponent sacrificed a tremendous amount in order to become the man he is today. And for what? To see one of his opponents strip of completely in the hope of making weight? Masaru really dealt a mental blow before their match had even started, not to mention that remark he made about him having someone to fight for (his girlfriend). I guess doing mental damage is Masaru’s forte.
I also took notice of what happened the night before Masaru’s fight. He had sex with his girlfriend on the night before his girlfriend. Now, I don’t really care about that part. I care about the part where it supposedly drains a boxer’s stamina. I find that very interesting. I’m aware that boxers have to rest the night before a match, but to think that having sex would have such a huge impact…
We know Masaru won’t win. He just won’t. He’s not in tip-top shape, doesn’t have many effective weapons that he can use against his opponent, and, if that isn’t enough, I think his fear of what might happen may worsen his performance even more. That guy is doomed no matter how you look at it. Too bad, Masaru-kun. Better luck next time!
