Hajime no Ippo: Rising episode 06

It certainly turned out better than I had imagined after last week’s comedy hell. The problem with Hajime no Ippo is that they juggle between comedy and action, and that just doesn’t work out for some things.

He dropped (most) of his ridiculous moves and fought head-to-head with the champion. It goes to show that even an idiot like him has pride that he fights for. That made his defeat even harder, because it was something that we could all see coming from a mile away. And yet I still believe that it’s for the best.

Masaru’s match ended in a draw, which is very impressive if you consider how Masaru fought throughout the match. He used ridiculous tactics and moves, tricked his opponent on numerous occasions, plus he even used the champ’s old girlfriend as some kind of leverage. I think a draw is very generous, even though it doesn’t give him the title he so desperately wants.

His career as a boxing is nearing its end, he knows that, but still it seems as though he wants to continue for just a little while longer. The guy is an absolutely idiot, yet even I can’t imagine that character without him being involved in boxing.

I have high hopes for the next episode. Ippo’s Dempsey Roll was defeated during his last match. It’s highly likely that he starts working on it during the next episode. Usually there’s a lot of comedy after an important match, but I’m hoping he starts his training. I can’t wait to see what Ippo comes up with next.
