Hajime no Ippo: Rising episode 09
I fail to understand this episode. Honestly… What was the point? I don’t think it showed anything of importance that we didn’t already know. Last week’s episode pretty much ended where I stopped reading the manga, because I knew back then that a third season was only a matter of time.
I’m happy that we got to see Alexander again. He was a very tough opponent for Ippo to beat and he can teach Ippo a lot of new thing about himself in order to prepare him for his next match. Alexander, after being taken care of by the Makunouchi family, would probably be more than happy to do as much as he possibly can to help him. That being said, why did they cover the one thing that Ippo already knew about himself? I fail to see why they would take things to such extreme levels when Ippo already realized that his Dempsey Roll needs improving.
The sight of Ippo being knocked out by Alexander’s Dempsey Roll counter was pretty devastating. Yes, it gave Ippo what he needed to realize the Dempsey Roll’s flaw, the fact that its movement is easy to predict and counter, but that was something we all already knew, just like the fact that those punches come from blind spots.
It was a very strange episode. I can only hope that the next one will be better, especially since they are really building up to a perfected Dempsey Roll. Ippo realized what was wrong and is not going to work on improving it. I would be lying if I said that I’m not interested in what he comes up with. I definitely want to know.
