Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun 2 episode 07
Yes! This is how it should be! You follow a certain story, you stick to it, but you also think of little ‘detours’ in order to entertain your viewers with new and exciting material. This episode is a perfect example of that. Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou, eat your heart out!
This episode doesn’t really focus on Shino’s quest to find all the remaining beads. They had other things to worry about thanks to Kobungo, an idiot that unknowingly made a contract with some kind of demon. I have no idea how he did not pick up on any of that. It’s thanks to him that innocent people died, I hope he realized that.
Kobungo basically gave that creature to order to find and kill a girl with, and I quote; “real red hair”. Many people were slaughtered like lambs before he finally found the right one, and before Dousetsu got the chance to take away one of his hands. It makes you wonder what he would get would’ve gotten in return if he managed to fulfil his side of the contract.
I also loved how Dousetsu, a man that has been looking for his little sister all this time, finally laid eyes upon Hamaji and realized that she was the one that he’s been looking for all this time. She is his little sister, his reason for living and the reason why he decided to stay in the city. Sure, it means that Shino is once again a step closer to gathering all the beads and their owners, but this episode wasn’t about that. That’s why Hakkenden has become such an unexpected success. These are the type of episodes that makes you want to keep on watching, mainly because you don’t easily get bored.
