Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun

Damn, another difficult anime to review. It’s not like I disliked it, but it was a bit hard to grasp. The first episode should give the viewer an idea of what it’s all about, but it’s quite unclear with this one. It’s about guys with supernatural abilities, we know that, but what do they fight for? It’s still a bit vague.

Hakkenden Touhou Hakken IbunThe artwork looks pretty good, especially when Shino used some of his powers. It was pretty nice to see, although I don’t see the point of having a crow that comes out of your arm. I suppose there’s more to it than meets the eye.

The story, although still vague, seems pretty interesting. I thought that it was going to be a bit like Hiiro no Kakera, but I’m glad it’s not. Those kids would be the only ones that I would’ve changed. I don’t think I like the idea of having little children as the male lead in this show. That was the main reason as to why I didn’t like Zettai Karen Children.

I’m sure action lovers with a taste for supernatural powers would love this one. That is why I recommend this to those that love to see lots of action and lots of interesting abilities.

Plot Summary: Five years ago, almost every villager of Ootsuka died due to a tragic plague. But mysteriously enough, three survivors: a girl and two boys, emerged. Now living in a church, the three live in isolation, hidden from those who may seek to find them. Shino, one of the survivors, has control over the power of Murasame, the blade of life. But when the imperial church seeks to take the Murasame for themselves, their peaceful life becomes a thing of the past…
