Koutetsujou no Kabaneri episodes 01 & 02
I am going to take it easy this season. I have a new job so I don’t have a lot of time to begin with. The number of shows I can review this season may be limited, but that doesn’t mean I can’t pick the best ones. Needless to say that I can’t leave Koutetsujou no Kabaneri alone.
This show was made by the same people that created Attack on Titan and it’s actually quite similar. Instead of building walls, fighting with 3D manoeuvrability gear and enormous titans that want to eat you whole, we have something slightly different. Does that mean that this is a total rip-off? Absolutely not. The first episode was enough for me to get hooked.
Instead of fighting man-eating titans as high as buildings (and some even higher) they have to fight whole armies of man-eating super zombies. Instead of flying around from building to building they have to use other weapons in order to try and kill those super zombies. Instead of hiding behind huge walls they have to hide inside train stations that they’ve remodelled into anti-zombie fortresses.
How can you not be interested after reading all that!? It’s like Attack on Titan but with super zombies. And there is no squeamish kid that transforms into a monster. Just an eager dude that’s fond of science and willing to help his fellow man in any way he can. He managed to obtain a body that doesn’t lose out against those super zombies by preventing that virus from reaching his brain (love that scene by the way) and thereby remaining in full control whilst having all the benefits of that virus. I’m sure we’ll soon learn that there are downsides to it, but I’m just going to play the part of an naïve fool so I can enjoy this a little while longer.
