Magi 2 episode 13
Nice twist! I know I often talk negatively about Magi and its characters, but you cannot deny the unpredictability. I think that’s one of Magi’s strongest points, I really do. I often think of one thing and the story just goes in the opposite direction…
This episode is a perfect example: Aladdin was supposedly top of his class. He has been studying and training a lot, perfecting his magical abilities with every passing day. The guy’s a Magi, so it’s safe to assume that magic comes to him naturally. That’s probably why he was sure that he was to be awarded the title of “top student” in that strange school. Yeah, you’d think that, but his title was rightfully stolen by someone better than him. It was quite arrogant of Aladdin to automatically assume that he was the best student there. Very arrogant indeed.
Now, this guy showed him what magic is all about. The headmaster may have ended the match in a draw, but we all know that Aladdin would’ve lost. That guy knew too much about magic and possessed too great a skill for Aladdin to beat at this point. It could either motivate him to work even harder or demotivate him because he still didn’t come out on top after all of his hard work.
But that’s not what’s surprising here. What’s surprising is that that guy might actually be a Magi, too. He had a similar gem in his arm like Aladdin, a gem that suppresses the rukh and cuts off any advantage a Magi might have over “normal” magicians. Now that’s a damn good twist! No doubt that Aladdin is going to hunt him down for answers in the next couple of episodes. I can’t wait!
