I am both disappointed and pleased. I will explain later as to why I’m pleased, but let’s focus on why I’m rather disappointed. You see, I’m no longer in school. I work. I am an adult. As a child I grew up with cartoons, cartoons like Disney’s Aladdin. This particular anime resembles that particular cartoon way too much. It is almost like they stole that idea and added a few different things. They are even using the characters’ names.
The artwork isn’t that bad, although I’m not a fan of how they did the characters’ teeth. The characters, including Aladdin’s genie, are too similar to Disney’s Aladdin. The only thing missing is an annoying parrot and a dodgy little monkey. The rest, including the background, looks pretty good.
Truth being told, the story is the only thing that disappointed me. Where is the originality? Why use one of Disney’s ideas? At least give the character’s different names, or give the genie a different colour than blue, just like the genie in Disney’s Aladdin. I’m a big fan of original anime, anime that shows how creative these Japanese geniuses can be.
I will only recommend this to fantasy lovers. I would’ve recommended it to everyone if they hadn’t used someone else’s idea. I have to admit that this show has great potential, but I cannot help but feel disappointed.
