Fuji TV’s Noitamina late-night programming block announced on Thursday that a television anime adaptation of Kazuma Ōtorino and artist Akaringo’s Ryūgajō Nanana no Maizōkin (Nanana’s Buried Treasure) novel will air on the block in April 2014.

A-1 Pictures will animate the series. The studio previously animated a promotional video for the novel in December 2011. Kanta Kamei (Bunny Drop, Tales of Vesperia ~The First Strike~, Oreshura) will direct the series, and Hideyuki Kurata (Read or Die, Samurai Flamenco, Oreimo) will handle the series composition. Additionally, Tetsuya Kawakami (chief animation director and sub-character design for Sword Art Online) will adapt Akaringo’s character designs for animation, and Keigo Hoashi (Dusk maiden of Amnesia) and monaca (Star Driver, Wagnaria!!, Aikatsu!) will handle the music.

The story centers around the treasure of Nanana, a ghost who was once a beautiful but NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) girl. A boy named Jūgo was disowned by his father and forced to transfer to a high school on the “Special Student Zone,” an artificial island. With only 40,000 yen (about US$500) a month to live on, Jūgo chooses a low-rent apartment that happens to be haunted by Nanana. Jūgo and members of the school’s adventure club join a “treasure hunt royale” on the island for the Nanana Collection, a treasure that possesses a mysterious power.

Ōtorino and Akaringo launched the novel series in January 2012, and the sixth novel will ship on December 26. The novel won the top prize in the 13th Enterbrain Entertainment Awards in September 2011. In addition to the novel, Hitoshi Okuda launched a manga version in Enterbrain’s Famitsu magazine in January 2012, and Enterbrain published the second compiled volume in March. The first volume of a spinoff novel series, Tensai’s Reluctant Deduction, shipped in August.
