Overlord episodes 02 & 03
I was already considering writing about Overlord. It looked promising to begin with, but the second episode didn’t really give me a clear idea of what I can expect to see in the future. This episode made up for that and really liked what I saw.
Last week’s episode was more like an intro. It was to build up a little suspense and show us the bigger pictures of the protagonist’s guild. He met them, verified their loyalty and gave them orders in order to secure their domain in case of an attack. It shouldn’t be all that surprising that he’s good at it; he’s been playing that game a long time and knows all about it. It’s like asking an old sci-fi die-hard to explain the Star Wars movies to you; he knows all. All he needed to do was make sure that everything was exactly the same or at least similar as in the game.
This week’s episode was far more interesting because it showed us a great deal. It shows us that the protagonist doesn’t plan on killing all the humans in that world. He wants to become ally and probably gain control by helping them and winning their alliance. That’s one way to go; get people to worship and follow you because of your power.
But that’s not the real reason I decided to write about it; I just like overpowered characters. We have a character that can use magic of a level so high that he has no known equal. I simply cannot help but love a story like that, even though they sometimes tend to become a little bit predictable. That is why I am looking forward to the next episode.
