Shining Hearts: Shiawase no Pan

I’m a little confused. I have seen the first episode, but I still have no clue what this anime is about. Is it about a young man and his bakery? Is it about some diabolical storm that will destroy their village? I really have no idea. The first episode was just too strange and vague.

The artwork is impressive, I’ll give ‘em that. However, I feel that Rick, one of the main characters, looks way too plain. You put him amongst ten other male characters and you probably wouldn’t be able to recognize him, he’s truly that plain. Still, I can look beyond that, I can see how detailed the artwork really is.

As for the story, well… It’s not very interesting, sorry. I would get bored just by watching five to ten minutes of all that baking and whatnot. But more importantly, what’s up with this episode? How could this possibly be a first episode? There’s absolutely no story here. I honestly believe that a first episode should contain a lot more of the original story. After all; first impressions are very important.

Frankly speaking; I have no idea what to recommend here. Is it good? Is it bad? I don’t know. I have no idea what it’s about yet, so to what kind of person should I recommend this? The artwork is good, but the story is just too vague. I guess that you anime fans should just give the first (two) episode(s) a go and see what happens.

Plot Summary: One day, a mysterious girl named Kaguya was washed ashore the island of Wyndaria after a great storm. She encounters Rick, a swordsman who wound up working at the island’s bakery. Apparently, Kaguya is suffering from having lost her memories and emotions. In addition, the usually peaceful Wyndaria is now swarming with pirates who came seeking for the special spirit stone that is worn around Kaguya’s neck. Knowing the situation, Rick and his co-workers, Nellis, Amyl, and Aerie decided to bring back peace to island and help Kaguya regain her lost memories and emotions.

  1. Fukou da says:

Well the anime is made from a visual novel so the story will probably pick up after a while. I really doubt this would have been created otherwise.

  2. @GameDemon can you do a review of episode 3 of shining hearts since that where the real plot begin?you can skip episode 2 since it also about bread

    • GameDemon says:

      I shall not.

      1) I believe a first impression is very important. This anime made us wait for two whole episodes until the real story began. Those were two whole episodes of nothing but pointless confusion.
      2) I have chosen this season’s shows. I try to limit myself to two posts a day, more would be unhealthy.
