Soul Eater Not! spin-off anime green-lit
The January issue of Square Enix’s Shonen Gangan is announcing on Thursday that the anime adaptation of Atsushi Ohkubo’s Soul Eater Not! spinoff manga will be animated by BONES, the studio behind the animation of the original Soul Eater anime. In addition, select episodes of the original Soul Eater anime will air in Japan beginning at midnight on January 6. The compilation is titled Soul Eater: Best Collection.
The third compiled volume of Soul Eater Not! and the final compiled volume of the original Soul Eater will also be released in Japan simultaneously on December 12. In addition, the magazine also reveals that the Soul Eater series has over sixteen million copies in print worldwide.
Chiaki Omigawa, voice actress of Soul Eater’s Maka, confirmed on her “Yurutto Fuwatto” (Lax & Fluffy) radio program in November that an anime adaptation of Atsushi Ohkubo’s Soul Eater Not! manga had been green-lit.The Internet domain name souleaternot.tv was registered under Kadokawa Corporation’s name on October 18. The December issue of Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine revealed in November that an “important announcement” for Atsushi Ohkubo’s Soul Eater Not! spinoff manga would be published in the magazine’s January issue on December 12.
The Soul Eater Not! manga returned from hiatus in October after the main Soul Eater manga ended in the magazine in August. It launched in 2011, and Yen Press is publishing both the Soul Eater and Soul Eater Not! manga in North America.
