Space Brothers episode 68
Bad episode, for sure. Never mind the fact that we had to endure yet another short recap (about to and a half minute long) at the start of the episode, not including the OP (which would’ve been four minutes total). It’s annoying and wasteful.
I have mixed feelings about this episode because I thought that it was about time we saw something other than Mutta’s jet training. It’s nice to see the guy so motivated about becoming an astronaut, but it’s too much to watch every week. So yeah, I’m kind of glad that we got a brief break from Mutta’s training this week.
However, did I really want to watch more Sharon-related scenes? Not really. We know she’s suffering from that illness and we know that she’s slowly losing the ability to live life as she wants it. Does that really mean that we have to keep watching these scenes until that character is finally dead? What’s next? Will we have to watch as she loses the ability to take a dump?
That’s only one thing, the last thing I wanted to see right now would be Hibito’s return to Japan after all this time. It goes without saying that thousands of people would show up to welcome their hero, but was that rabbit-hat thing really necessary? Was that scene with Hibito’s parents really necessary? I think that they screwed up the entire episode with that. I thought they were trying to crank up the drama by focussing a bit on Sharon and her illness, so where do rabbit-hats and Hibito’s parents come in? It just doesn’t make sense and I found it rather inappropriate somehow. I would’ve rather seen a dramatic episode about Sharon alone than a messed up drama/comedy mixture.
