Suisei no Gargantia episode 09
Wow, the story is becoming really interesting. I must be honest and admit that I really had my doubts at first. We were led to believe that Ledo’s mortal enemies, the Hideauze, were strong creatures, so that is why I was rather anxious when I fired up this episode.
I’m glad it started the way it did. I would’ve held my breath if it started with Ledo diving into the ocean right away. But no, we were given a short history lesson about Pinion and his deceased “bro”. It doesn’t change my image of him though. He’s still the same greedy fool that I’ve always seen him as, no matter what happened in the past.
But enough about him for now, let us focus on the fact that Ledo dove into the ocean and slaughtered those things by the dozen. It looked way too easy, especially for those, like me, who still remember those creatures from the first episode, when Ledo was still back “home”. That is why I got nervous last week.
I’m just glad it wasn’t some cheap excuse. It seems that those squid-like creatures are similar to the Hideauze in space, but they’re not as strong (yet). The Hideauze that Ledo knows have mutated, learned of humans’ weaknesses, which made fighting them serious business. These earth-bred Hideauze are still weak and pose very little to no threat.
Unfortunately, I’m getting worried again. We saw a scene where it almost looked as though the Hideauze weren’t the enemy at all, as though they were mankind’s friend. I have no idea what to think of that. I’m not sure I like the idea of the Hideauze, creatures that have been painted as the enemy from the very first episode, suddenly becoming allies. The next episode will be interesting alright, that’s for sure.
