Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Bride

I cannot believe that this got another season. I always thought it was an interesting piece, but most certainly not good enough to make another season of it. I would’ve used that for better shows, shows that simply deserve another season from the moment the first episode finished airing.

Hyakka Ryouran Samurai BrideSo yeah, it got another season somehow, and I’m blaming the artwork for that. I admit that I followed the first season till the very end. I also admit that I was amused during every episode. Then again, I’m kind of a pervert that likes a little ecchi here and there. Besides, I like the artwork. It’s very interesting and refreshing.

The story is the only reason why I speak negatively about this anime. It’s just not that good. In fact, it’s boring at times. Take the first episode; they changed their dojo into a maid café. So much for accuracy, because maid cafés didn’t even exist in that era.

Go ahead and watch it if you like strange artwork and ecchi scenes, but don’t bother if you don’t like these types of stories. They are trying their very best to squeeze out a laugh or two, that’s for sure.

Plot Summary: The story takes place in Japan in the early 21st century, in an alternate reality where the Tokugawa Shogunate has remained in power. In this reality, student councils are tasked with oppressing schools. Yagyuu Muneakira is a high school student who rebels against his student council with the help of girls who’ve had the names of famous samurai heroes passed on to them.

Senran Kagura

I have been waiting for this ever since I read the plot summary, but now that it’s here I’m not sure anymore. I’m not sure I like it. It’s somewhat up my alley, but at the same time it isn’t. I suppose you could call it too much of a good thing?

Senran KaguraThe artwork, if anything, would have to be the problem here. The characters don’t look that special and the sceneries could use a bit more detailing. The main characters look so standard, especially Yagyu, a tsundere loli with an eye patch. I’ve seen these characters so many times, not to mention characters with flowers for eyes (Hibari).

The story in itself is pretty interesting, although not that original either. High school girls that train to become fighters in a world of their own? Yeah, that’s real original. Not!

I suppose all Ikkitousen fans would love this one, as these shows are very similar. I won’t recommend this to anyone else. Real die-hard ecchi fans will definitely watch this, but I’m not sure about regular viewers, sorry.

Plot Summary: Lots of busty teenagers trying te become skilled fighters. They enroll in a school with a secret training program for people like them.

Da Capo III

Another average anime with a pretty big success streak, huh…? Well, I’m not complaining, as I enjoy watching Da Capo. It’s ecchi, pretty funny at times and the romance isn’t too bad either. That’s the kind of thing I like.

Da Capo IIIThe artwork is by far the best thing about this show. The characters look good, the scenery looks good and it’s generally pretty detailed. There are very few adjustment that I would make. It’s fine as it is right now.

The story, which in my humble opinion is why the first two season have been so average, has never really been that amazing. It’s missing the “wow!” factor. It’s not boring or uninteresting, but it’s not that great either.

I, providing you’ve seen the previous seasons, recommend this to all ecchi and/or romance fans. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of light nudity every now and then. Besides, it’s primarily about the romance.

Plot Summary: Every year the flowers bloom. Mysterious Cherry Blossoms blooming all over a crescent shaped island. That island is the island of Hatsune…

The main character who goes to Kazami Academy, Asakura Junnichi, has the power to see the dreams of other people in his sleep. He was also taught magic by an old lady that allows him to create sweets.

One day, Junnichi seems to have seen someone`s dream again while he was sleeping. Inside that dream, a girl who was a childhood friend of his appeared. But, he was woken up by his sister Asakura Nemu, forcing him to come back to his regular life. Nemu doesn`t actually have any blood relation to Junnichi but their bond is deeper than other real brothers and sisters. So deep that it gives the illusion that they`re lovers.

It was another peaceful normal day waking up early in the morning and going to Kazami Academy. Together with childhood friend Amakase Miharu, the academy idol Shirakawa Kotori, the two sisters Mizukoshi Moe and Mako who prefer eating nabe on the school roof for lunch. Going through their day as usual, their childhood friend, Yoshino Sakura, who they thought had moved to America suddenly appears. It was a surprise for Junnichi and Nemu. Sakura tells them, “I came to finish the promise we made during our childhood”…

Medaka Box Abnormal episode 12

Yeah, this is one way to do it… If you’re going to make a third season and all, then why not make the second season’s ending way too obvious? It’s very simple and very obvious, indeed. I like it! It actually saves me the trouble of having to worry about it being the end.

[HorribleSubs] Medaka Box S2 - 12 [720p].mkv_snapshot_00.33_[2012.12.28_23.39.56]Everyone knows how the previous episode ended. I, too, thought that it was way too strange to introduce a new enemy before the very last episode. That’s when I knew that this wouldn’t be the end. There are many more Medaka Box arcs, and I’m pretty sure we’re going to see an animated version of the next arc in the near future.

During this episode we get to know a bit more about Misogi, probably the creepiest little brat you’ll ever see on your screen. We learn more about his powers, about the people he hung out with and, of course, about his interests. It’s not about whether or not we would like to know more about him. The question is; do we have a choice?

[HorribleSubs] Medaka Box S2 - 12 [720p].mkv_snapshot_17.21_[2012.12.28_23.41.03]Misogi, to me, seemed like a clear case psychopath. He kills people as though it’s natural, thinks of nothing but himself and looks at everything so negatively. He’s a menace. He needs to be defeated soon, although that probably won’t be as easy and one would expect. His ability, All Fiction, allows him to bend reality to his will.

It’s definitely an unbalanced character. I would like to see if Medaka can master his ability as well, although I’m afraid we will have to wait until the next season to see anything of the sort. I definitely won’t be reading the manga. I would like to be surprised when the third season comes out.

Medaka Box Abnormal episode 11

Oh come on… Enough is enough! The whole episode was a ride of joy, until I saw the ending. Why is it that they always tend to introduce new characters at the very end? I don’t care about some creepy transfer student. I just want to see Mekaka-chan as she beats the living daylights out of that crazy old man.

[HorribleSubs] Medaka Box S2 - 11 [720p].mkv_snapshot_08.38_[2012.12.21_13.15.04]Anyway, the majority of the episode was pure bliss. I saw as Medaka-chan entered a new kind of War God Mode, a mode where she has full control, unlike the mode where she has pink hair. This mode shows Medaka-chan with beautiful black hair and a whole lot of power. It sounds very surprising, but Oudo was shocked beyond his wildest dreams.

I’m going to skip by the part where Odou seriously wounded Itami-chan, Kujira’s best friend. It was nice to see how Kujira came to her senses and realized that unhappiness isn’t the way to go. I was even nicer when Odou tried to take Medaka’s abnormality, but stopped in the middle of it because of all the horrific perks that came with it.

[HorribleSubs] Medaka Box S2 - 11 [720p].mkv_snapshot_15.37_[2012.12.21_13.15.47]Now, I don’t like the fact that Medaka simply forgive him like that, let alone that they seemed to have become friends already, but that certainly wasn’t unexpected. We all know how that character’s personality works by now. However, I was surprised when they introduced yet another character, which is kind of stupid, because they always do that with Medaka Box.

Oh well, next week’s episode will be the last. There are only two things for which I can pray right now; a good ending and another season. But, with me being an Atheist and all, I can merely hope that they will give us a decent ending, preferably one where Medaka and Zenkichi finally kiss. Come on, that’s been a long time coming… Make it so!
