I read about this one when the season’s schedule got published, and it sounded like it was going to be pretty amusing. I’m pretty much a fan of ecchi animes, because I find most of them hilarious, and I really prefer comedy above all else.

I wasn’t sure about it when the episode started out. Haruaki, a boy and one of the main characters, received some sort of a cube one day from his father, and it turned out to be a girl. He takes the girl in and takes care of her while she messes up the house. But Haruaki has, what a surprise, a female friend from school that likes him. Love triangles here we come!

The artwork is actually very good, although I do think they could’ve done a bit better on the eyes. The story is so-so; it’s a bit farfetched, but that’s not surprising if you take a look at the genres. Episode one was pretty funny, so I can definitely see some potential, but we’ll see.

Plot Summary: A school battle action & love comedy with ecchi elements. Yachi Haruaki is a high school boy and naturally resistant to curses. His father, Honatsu, sends him cursed instruments called “Worse” to try to break this. One day, Haruaki receives a black cube from Honatsu. During the night, he encounters a naked silver haired girl stealing rice crackers. She is the human-form of the black cube, an instrument of torture called “Fear in Cube”. Haruaki and the girl ‘Fear’ fight together against other ‘Worse’ instruments and their owners using Fear’s 32 mechanisms of torture.

Mayo Chiki episode 13

What the hell? Every anime information site I’ve visited over the past week stated that Mayo Chiki would only have twelve episodes. A week later and episode thirteen suddenly arrives, with any and all anime information sites now saying that Mayo Chiki has thirteen episodes. I think it’s very strange, but it did make my day.

All I can say about this episode, summarized in one word, is FINALLY! They finally focused on Nakuru. They started out with Nakuru working on her manga, but she couldn’t find the inspiration to continue, she had only finished the first half. She called Kureha, Masamune, and later on Kanade and Subaru for their help.

They changed locations every time, hoping Nakuru would get inspired in order to finish her work. Nakuru went shopping for clothing, manga, but none of that seemed to help. She was thrown off her game because a boy confessed to her, something that surprisingly didn’t happen to her a lot. She didn’t know how to deal with it, she was very insecure, mainly about her breasts. She was under the impression that her breasts were way too big, apparently not knowing that most boys her age love big breasts.

She went to Kinjirou’s house and asked him out on a date, hooray! She wanted to get rid of her insecurity, and she thought that Kinjirou could help her with that. They went out for a picnic as soon as it became dark outside. Both sat there on a bench talking, when it came to light that Nakuru was very insecure about her breasts, after which Kinjirou told her that everyone has insecurities, that it’s normal to feel that way. Nakuru thought that it would help her to push her breasts onto Kinjirou, hoping that his reaction would be normal, and that he wouldn’t pass out because those huge funbags were pressing up against him. It ended pretty normally, Nakuru was satisfied with how their date turned out, she finished her manga on time and she gained some self-confidence.

That’s all very cute, but I couldn’t possibly see this episode as the end of Mayo Chiki. It didn’t look like an ending at all, if anything it just screamed “To be continued!” as soon as those two ended their date. There were no credits, there are many questions that still need answering and several relationships that have barely started. There is more Mayo Chiki coming, that much is obvious.

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu Ni episode 12

Well, the second season is nearing its end, and they made yet another weird episode. I read a little bit of the manga, and I can’t remember this being in it, I really can’t.

It started out with class F’s mass summon. It seems that their summons have all changed shaped, probably due to another glitch. The summons show a person’s true nature, and this caused a lot of ruckus. There was so much ruckus that people from other classes (in this particular case there were 2 students from class A and Minami’s little sister) that showed up because of it.

This completely escalated and gave birth to yet another weird school event. There was some sort of ghost town attraction that you had to complete without being defeated by students from other classes. Yeah, I know, but it’s not as weird as it sounds. I have to admit, even though it doesn’t really fit into the story, I did laugh quite a lot. Especially when Minami called forth her summon and it turned out to be a flat wall, because of her flat chest and whatnot. The other characters played that off really well.

Anyway, next week is this season’s last episode, it’s obvious that they are going to finish the season by continuing this week’s episode. I do hope that even if they do continue it, that at least something happens between Aki, Minami and/or Mizuki.

Mayo Chiki episode 12

Yet another sad day, for today is the day where we get to see Mayo Chiki’s final episode, or so some communities claim. I’m standing firm behind my theory that this show was doing very well, it has a very large fanbase, it has a high viewers rating in Japan and the manga has been read slightly more than average. So I, based on all those facts, can come to no other conclusion that there is a strong possibility that Mayo Chiki might get a second season, or at least several OVA’s.

So the story simply continues and Kinjirou, who had regained consciousness from Subaru’s kiss on the cheek, decided to go after Subaru with the help of Masamune and her scooter. Kinjirou and Masamune arrive at some sort of shrine where they were last time during all those fireworks. Kinjirou walks towards that shrine where he finds Subaru just sitting there. Kinjirou made it very clear to her how he felt about all of this, and how Subaru should just come home. Subaru, who had calmed down, agreed to come home first thing tomorrow morning.

It was late, too late to go home apparently. The two decided to book a room for the night in a nearby inn. Kinjirou was nervous all night, especially after Kanade’s call, who messed with his mind by telling him that tonight might just be the start of his “first experience” with Subaru. He was really on edge, especially when Subaru stood up and they started talking, which resulted in Subaru lying next to Kinjirou, hand in hand.

The next morning they get picked up by Kanade and Subaru’s father, who was pissed off at Kinjirou, thinking that he might have defiled his precious daughter. All of them went back home and life simply continued. School starts and everyone hears the news about Subaru’s transfer, only to find out, by some, that Subaru is now going to school under a different identity, because she is no longer Kanade’s butler.

Kinjirou observed for as long as he could, but he decided to ask the help of all the girls that were pissed at him, because they thought he was responsible for Subaru’s transfer. They formed an alliance, after which they started this huge petition in order to get the old Subaru back, practically everyone wanted to sign that petition. At the end of the day they had collected several stacks of paper, all sign by people who want Subaru back. Kanade took all those petitions home to her father, to show him how much Subaru means to her and everyone else, how they want her back no matter what. Success! The very next day we get our old Subaru back, she was reinstated as Kanade’s butler.

Everything is once again back to normal. Subaru is once again a butler, Kanade is still the cute and sinister girl we’ve come to know and love, Kureha is still the same old wrestling fanatic that practices on her brother, Masamune is still the same shy girl who observes everything from behind the scenes and Nakuru is still the group’s glasses-fetishist. Life goes on.

Subaru, after school, calls for Kinjirou to meet her in the park. She wanted to thank him for all that he has done for her, not as Kanade’s butler, but as Kinjirou’s female friend. A kiss is coming, Kinjirou realized that and starts to get nervous, when Kanade, who had been spying on them from behind a tree, aggressively tells Subaru to just kiss him. Subaru grabs a hold of him and lands one right on the lips. Great ending, it’s the type of ending that leaves you wanting more.

This only confirmed my theory. A lot of ground has yet to be covered, for example the relationship between him and Kanade, there’s obviously something there. And what about Masamune and Nakuru? There’s a lot that still needs explaining, so I’m definitely expecting more Mayo Chiki in the (near) future.

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu Ni episode 11

Well the new episode is here, but I was not happy when I started watching it. The entire episode is about Yuuji and Shouko’s past. Normally I’d be happy about episodes like these, but I learned absolutely nothing new. So yeah, I pretty much think that the episode was wasted.

It shows Yuuji and Shouko when they were little, doing chores together, going home together and getting passed difficult times together. Apparently Yuuji was her first friend to treat her just like everyone else.

Yuuji however was an obnoxious brat, like many people probably already knew. He was one of the smarter kids and saw, treated and spoke about the other kids as though they were inferior to him in practically every way. But not Shouko, he treated her very differently and she was always interested in him.

One day he pissed of some of his seniors and they decided to sabotage his clothes, but Shouko showed up and tried to stop them. Yuuji came back to see if the seniors had fallen into his trap, only to find out that Shouko was caught in the middle of it. He ended up helping out Shouko by fighting off those other kids. That was when Shouko fell in love with him and decided that she’d stay by his side forever.

This information was pretty much known, they had shown glimpses and scenes of their past already, so I can’t figure out why they went into the specifics at this point, seeing as the second season is nearing it’s end.
