Tamako Market episode 08

It’s about time they started working on Dera’s diet. That character was hilarious during the first episode. I believe that the possibilities are rather limited when Dera is fat. You could only really focus on the fact that he’s fat, which gets boring pretty quickly.

He was told to go on a diet before, but he didn’t really listened and kept on eating like there was no tomorrow. That soon changed when that fat bird couldn’t get into the bird house that Kanna-chan made for him. It was funny to see that he couldn’t get his fat ass entirely inside that house, but that’s what I tried to make clear earlier; the comedy is very limited to Dera being fat.

I know it’s like I’m speaking badly of Tamako Market, but I’m really not. The comedy is key here. There isn’t much romance (yet), so the show has to rely primarily on comedy. Things get boring quickly when you see the same stuff over and over again. Even bullies get tired of making the same jokes over and over again.

She had trouble getting used to live in Japan, so I guess that’s why the rest of the group decided to help her out. I’m still a bit sceptical about how that character will improve the story, but she’s doing a good job by making Dera lose weight, so she gets thumbs up for that one.

Finally, what the hell is up with Dera’s new form? He looks like a gay bowling pin now. Birds don’t look nearly as terrifying as that. Mind you, I laughed like hell when I laid eyes on his new form. I paused the screen as he stood on top of Tamako’s head with that proud look of his until I finally stopped laughing. It’ll be very interesting to see what that character will do next week.
