Zetsuen no Tempest episode 03
Is it just my imagination or is Zetsuen no Tempest getting better and better with each passing episode? The first episode was interesting, complicated but interesting. The second episode was a lot clearer and very amusing. But this, this episode was great. The magic in Zetsuen no Tempest doesn’t look childish at all. There aren’t any gay speeches or wands involved. Love it!
The story resumed with Mahiro’s fight against a full-fledged mage. Mahiro, a novice that relies on talismans, did his best to hold his own, but it was no use. His opponent knew all about magic and how to use it to his advantage. Mahiro doesn’t know any formula’s, how to use it or what to sacrifice in order to invoke any magic. It’s a complicated process when you think about it…
Mahiro, whom normally stands in the spotlight, wasn’t the star of the episode though. No, that honour is all Yoshino’s. He, too, learned about magic and how to use it to his advantage. Sure, it was a quick crash course that he got from Hakaze, but it helped him to save his friend from getting killed by that other mage.
Hakaze, as is to be expected, got interested in Yoshino from thereon out. She couldn’t fully understand him, anticipate his next move or get a rough estimate of what he’s capable of. I can definitely see why that character’s so interesting. His persona suits this type of story all too well. Besides, having a protagonist that’s a bit better than other characters is normal.
I’ll just end this post by saying that I have high hopes for next week’s episode. Mahiro and Yoshino officially teamed-up, Yoshino made some new friends and enemies, and it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the population finds out about what’s going with all those sealed off areas. There’s no company in the world that could cover up the fact that countless of people are turning into metal, causing the government to seal of city after city. No… It’s just a matter of time.
